PXAF CRAFTSHIP INTERVIEW 02 - Designer Ding Peng

Q: Your handmade works are made by many types of natural stones, perils, vintage pendants, etc. How do you collect these materials?

A: I usually poke around for many different kinds of materials to compare, and collect better materials. Sometimes, I also collect from vintage markets, combining the contemporary factors and vintage ones.

Q: It is spring, I personally prefer crystal, Aquamarine kinds of stone, seems really juicy! For your recent mood, is there any style or material you prefer?

A: I recently collected some Natural Blue Phosphorite, which is a perfect couple for the spring and Summer, since the blue makes people think about the sea and blue sky, I personally have a keen on blue color, which give people a feeling of freedom. So I would make some Natural blue phosphor mixed jewellery.

Playing with stones in a new way!

Q: How do you define your brand?

A: Brand name DING PENG 丁朋, Peng, represents ‘Punk’. The main element in my products is Punk, but also combined with many other styles. “朋” seems like a pair of jeans on the shape of Chinese character, so it represents denim patchwork products. Peng is also the ‘peng’ in ‘peng you’(Friends) in Chinese, so it means ‘making products while making friends’.
